This page reviews single player computer games that I have played ( there is another page somewhere for multi-player stuff). This is not the latest and greatest but I hope includes some 'interesting stuff. On typing this up I notice a strong bias towards creating 'little things' and mucking arround with their DNA ... is that the sound of pesants with pitchforks and torches at my door ?
There are some seriously good ideas in this game. The traps design section is good, the breeding new creatures from thoes you have captured is good, and the interogation ( what do you want to ask it and how hard do you want to ask ) is good. Unfortunatly the thing is utterly bug ridden and real time so, while you are doing all of the interesting, stuff you get overrun. This game is great source material for anyone working on something similar. If it's best features were combined with Diabalo, Rogue and Dungeon Master then we would have something realy good.
1st person adventure. Unusally this has the ranomly generated elements of hack, rogue etc. Unfortunatly the rest of the game is trivial. There are a few 'puzzles' but they are far to simple. The big boss at the end is effectivly invincible. I got him to a point between two section of dungeon where he could be hit but couldn't move and took him apart, from long range, with magic hammers. It still took me more than 30 miniutes real time. The end of adventure video is ammusing.
The original 1st person adventure. This was back in the days of 2D, or ascii, graphics. Bought it, took it home, fired it up, met the first monster and decided to pick it up again in the morning. The magic system is inspired. Graphics now archaic but good enough. Whats better ? See DM2.
Decent graphics, good story line. So why did some idoit make them ship it befor it was finished. You end this game faced with the obligatory big boss offering you the chance to join him on the dark side ... say no and it a fight to the 'well done' message ... say no any you get to spend the rest of eternaty with two exceptionallty well rendered young women beside a swimming pool.
The senario. A bunch of vikings start out in England, build lots of castles, take over the country and ( if they have some spare time ) eventually invade palces such as Norway and Iceland. Not a bad little war game but should have been called "Normans ( J'avez un ram battering plus grand than vous mate )"
