'Jartrek' will not run on browsers without 'swing' support. Most modern browsers have this. IE identifies the required plug in and prompts you to install it. If you have problems follow Sun's instructions here.
Since Jartrek is a self contained applet you must be on line while it is loading but can be off line while playing.
We aim to simulate the role of real (whatever that means) a starship captain. I.e. the user provides general guidance to what goes on on the ship but the detail is handled by the ships systems and simulated crew.
Improve control panels for devices.
Develop a better game scenario ( lots more ship types, scoring etc. )
Sort out a coherent units system for the universe. Probably 'extended' SI.
Develop better game load and over screens
One day, many years from now, I may...
Develop server based multi-player support (maybe allowing ships to 'travel' between 'universes' operating on different servers).
Develop dynamic 3rd party SDK and plugin mechanism for ship designs, device designs, scenarios etc.
Develop a sound sub-system
Bolt on simulated starship crew members possible as a form of 'role playing' game.
When resized/moved the applet version does not re-draw properly. This is probably a trivial fault but, since it does not make the game unusable, I am not planning to fix it at present.
The game runs very slowly on laptops. This seems to be the case even on laptops with CPU speeds which would give acceptable performance on desktop machines. I think this is something to do with relatively poor integration between the JVM and laptop graphics hardware.
If the launch page is opened and then re-visited, using the back/forward buttons, IE5 jams. Don't know why.
