Note: The example character is heavily over encumbered. His excuse is that most of his kit is in saddle bags on his ridding ostrich. So he has entered a large 'not carried' figure. (If I were DM I wouldn't let him get away with this!) As an exercise try reducing this number and see how quickly the character become unplayable.
A spreadsheet implementing quite a bit of the RQII character generation rules. Written under excel 2003 but also works in OpenOffice (which is free).
Can be used to create/maintain character sheets. Is not intended to replace dice, pencils and the rule book in game play.
Enter the basic stats: Many other fields will get auto completed.
Enter your skills (1 'level' = one successful increase roll i.e. +5%)
For new skills enter the skill name. Other fields should automatically switch on.
'tick boxes' are provided for 'used' skills. During play tick them manually (electronically enter an 'X' or any non zero character) and make increase rolls as normal.
Some field have help comments. Hover over field to see these.
Colours are used on the character sheet as follows.
Blue |
Value to be entered by player. |
Black |
Calculated value. Generally this has been auto derived from other fields. However there are always 'special cases'. If so enter your own number. But remember that you will have to maintain this value manually in future (or re-enter the formula from a 'blank' sheet.). |
Amber |
Value above advised limit (will cause penalties) |
Red |
Illegal value (fix it) |
The 3rd sheet 'Tables' is 'technical stuff' used in calculations. For now it is visible but, for game play, you don't need to print it.
Stats handled above a max of 32
HPs handled above a max of 30
Damage bonus should, maybe, appear as an add in weapon damage.
An optional 3rd page with space for notes, equipment, extra weapons, servants. properties, beasts etc.,
Links, and copyright acknowledgements, for RQ game system.
Select weapons, shields etc. from drop down menus and insert correct data.
Select equipment, and weapon/shield, locations from drop down menus (carried, at home, 'on mount' etc.) … auto modify 'not carried' field based on this.
Critical and Fumble rolls for normal skills.
Do something about the green 'error tags' on page 2. These cells are correct but the tags won't switch off.
Add an 'armour' section. Select garments from a drop down and modify character diagram ENC/AC values to match.
These involve carrying out complex logical operations on the sheet. So long as consistent cell naming is used possibly could be done using a Java excel library such as Apache POI.
There should be a 'do inc rolls' button.
Add previous experience system.
So you've found a problem. There probably are a few. Please check in the 'what's missing' section above that's it's not a known issue.
